In the last week a beloved local coffee shop, the one with the open mics and backstage concerts, the one that the neighbors secretly wish was quieter but know it brings revenue into the area and so on. BUt still...it has becoem a hub for a community that, in a city of immigrants like Los Angeles, is something that people still crave. And in a time of technology creeping into our lives, our ways of connecting in real time have increased, our desire to express our selves creativly never at a standstill. There are storyteller nights, songiner songwriter nights, improv nights, spoken work nights, watercolor painting class, ukulele lessons, massage, cake and cookies, I mean it is amazing. And I read about Detroit, and what are they gonna do with a city that has a fraction of its former, ( and formerly solid middle class) population? Urban Gardens, that's what. Buildings come down, gardens go in, neighbors come out , community builds up

When the great plans of the mighty come tumbling down in their predictable cycle, its the art and garden tha pull us through. Community and creativity in action, in harmony with each other.
ANd so, the county had come in and said $15,000 was needed to be complaint and entertainment license to stand up and say a poem, and so forth. But weeks later, the opposite is true. Y9ou are compliant. Carry on.
A hundred letters written by those who have found a community, a town hall, acommunity ceenter to gether together, eat and be creative and mingle together, making crafts, writing songs, learning about the web and tea and travel. It's...how you american's say?...real "neat!"
